Rules
 

1. The Brazilian Society of Cardiology, in conjunction with Sanofi-Aventis, has created the "ABC Scientific Publication Award". The purpose of the Award is to promote the submission of Original Articles on major cardiovascular issues published by the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology (Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia) in the development of technical-scientific studies. The Award will be granted to the ten best Original Articles published from December 2005 through December 2006.

2. Only Original Articles published in the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology, during 2006, in the following areas will be eligible for the Award:

a. Atherosclerosis / dyslipidemia

b. Cardiac arrhythmia / pacemaker  

c. Basic / experimental research

d. General cardiology 

e. Pediatric cardiology 

f.  Epidemiology 

g. Arterial hypertension 

h. Heart failure 

i. Interventionist cardiology and surgery

j,  Noninvasive diagnostic methods

3. In cases where more than one article is published in different categories, both will participate in their respective categories.

4. Only original articles will be evaluated.

5. The Examining Board will analyze the following items: originality and relevance, study design, methodology, statistical analysis, results and conclusion.

6. In the event of a tie, the marks obtained in the following items will be evaluated in the respective order: originality and relevance, methodology, study design, conclusion and results.
7. The ten papers classified for the award will receive a certificate and a cash prize of R$ 4,000.00 (four thousand reals), which will be presented during the delivery ceremony of the “ABC Award of Scientific Publication”, with due legal deductions.

8. The value of the Prize will be awarded to the first author of an Original Article.

9. There are no enrolment requirements to participate in the Award.

10. The evaluation, classification and prize awarding process will be conducted by the Examining Board of the “ABC Scientific Publication Award”. During this process, the Editor and Associated Editors of the ABC Journal will make a pre-selection to analyze the categories under which each paper will participate. The examination will be conducted by the Examining Board, whose members are selected by the Editors of the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology.

11. No appeals against the decisions made by the Examining Board will be allowed.

12. The disclosure of the ten selected articles will be made through the SBC portal www.cardiol.br at a date to be established.

13. The prizes will be presented during a specific ceremony at a date yet to be defined.

14. It is up to the Award’s Organizing Committee to decide on cases not covered in these Rules.
