Rules

V ABC Scientific Publication Award

Aiming at encouraging the submission of Original Articles on main cardiovascular issues to the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology (Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia- ABC), as well as the development of technical-scientific studies, the Brazilian Society of Cardiology has instituted, together with Sanofi-Aventis, the award sponsor, the "ABC Scientific Publication Award" (The “Award”).
 
1. The Award will be granted to the authors of the five (5) best Original Articles published at the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia Journal from January 2009 to December 2009.

2. Only Original Articles published in the Brazilian Archives of Cardiology in the year 2009 will be eligible for the Award, according to the areas that will be defined by the Editors of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia Journal.

2.1. The same Original Article can compete in different areas.

2.2. The same author can submit more than one Original Article.

3. During the appraisal of the Original Articles, the Award Examining Board will analyze the following items:

a) Relevance and originality;
b) Clarity and pertinence of the objectives; coherence with the methodology;
c) Study design that is appropriate for the objectives;
d) Description of the methods/procedures and statistical analysis that is appropriate for the design. Clear description of the study population and sample size. Definition of the study variables, mainly of the intervention or exposure and outcome;
e) Importance for the advancement of knowledge. Potential applicability and impact of the results.

4. Regardless of the number of authors, the Award corresponding to each Original Article will be equivalent to (i) a certificate; and (ii) a cash prize of R$10,000.00 (ten thousand reais), with due legal deductions.
4.1 In case of more than one author, the Award will be granted to the first author of the Original Article.

5. No registration is necessary to participate in the appraisal.

6. The Editors of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia Journal will carry out a pre-selection to analyze the areas in which each Original Article will compete. The process of evaluation, classification, appraisal and prize-awarding process will be carried out by the Examining Board of the "ABC Scientific Publication Award", which will be chosen by the Editors of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia Journal.

7. No appeals against the decisions made by the Examining Board will be allowed.

8. The disclosure of the 5 selected articles will be made through the SBC portal at www.cardiol.br at a date to be defined later.

9. The Awards will be delivered during the “ABC Scientific Publication Award" Ceremony, at a date to be defined later.

10. The Editors of the Arquivos Brasileiros de Cardiologia will be in charge of deciding on specific cases not covered by these Rules.
